Hello, friends! Welcome to my blog!
I am Avishek Dey Mandal, a digital marketing consultant from India. I work with small businesses and companies and help them with their online marketing campaigns. I have worked with a multitude of small and medium sized businesses over the years.
However, it wasn’t always like this.
My journey into the world of digital marketing has been exciting. Well, I never wanted to be a digital marketing professional in the first place. In fact, I had no idea on what digital marketing was until I started looking for ways to make money online.
During my college days, I was looking for some extra cash. Chances are you did the same as well. So, instead of offering private tuitions and coaching like most of my friends were doing, I decided to make money online.
Well, I got a taste of making money online way before I joined college though. It was back in 2011 when I made 54.5USD by doing some small gigs on Amazon MTurk. Prior to that, I had read various articles and blogs on the internet about people making money online. But, I was never convinced. However, once I received that cheque from Amazon MTurk, I realized there are legitimate ways to earn money by working online.
My interest and research brought me to various online job sites such as Freelancer, ODesk, Upwork, etc. So, I signed up on those websites and started looking for freelance content writing jobs.
Soon, I began writing articles at a very meager wage. But, I didn’t mind….it was something new for me and I was getting my foot in the door. Soon, the rates increased and I started earning a decent amount of money by writing articles, blogs, and website content.
As I started getting a lot of orders, I hired a few writers to help me out with content writing. It was going pretty well….. I was supplying content to SEO agencies and I made good money out of it. I even created a website for myself and uploaded a few samples of my writing on the website. It gave a huge advantage over competitors while bidding in job marketplaces.
That was also the first time I ever created a website. I had to hire a developer for the hosting and setting up WordPress but soon I started tinkering with my website. It taught me how to create basic websites, install WordPress themes and customize the looks.
As I was creating content for a number of SEO agencies, I started learning more about SEO through various blogs, forums, and industry leaders. I learned about keyword research, on-page optimization, basic link building and stuff. During this time, I developed a strong professional relationship with an SEO agency from the USA. I could make out that the agency was growing pretty fast as their demand for SEO content kept increasing at a rapid pace.
I sensed an opportunity and asked if they would like to outsource some of their SEO work to me. After a few rounds of discussions with both the co-founders of the agency over Skype and a successful trial run, I was offered the gig. It was a crucial time for me as I learned a lot of new things and techniques. This went on for a few months until I decided to do start my own SEO agency. So, I parted ways with the agency and started to look for clients.
It was a very hard time for me as I was failing to bring in new clients. I approached some of my previous content writing clients and pitched my SEO services but to no success. I wanted to avoid freelance job portals but due to the lack of clients, I had to go back to the sites I despised the most.
Finally, after 3 weeks of bidding and cold emailing, I got my first client. It was a painting company looking for a website and some local SEO services to get to the first page of Google. From website designing to content writing- I did everything on my own.
It was a learning experience for me and I understood the practical challenges of the job. With time, I built my client base based on referrals and cold emailing strategies. At the same time, I kept myself aware of the latest trends in the field of Content, SEO, and Digital Marketing.
Even today, I keep learning new techniques and strategies and adopt those according to my needs. The good thing about digital marketing is that you never stop learning and growing. So, I have started this blog with a view to sharing my knowledge and experience with you.
